Communications Reach New Heights with Sonexis On Board

Southwest Airlines Pilots' Association uses Sonexis for its "on-the-fly" capabilities and ease of use to connect pilots nationwide

TEWKSBURY, Mass. - April 18, 2006 -
Keeping pilots communicating effectively is no simple task. With round-the-clock flight schedules and geographic disparities, the Southwest Airlines Pilots' Association (SWAPA), a non-profit association representing the pilots of Southwest Airlines, needed a conferencing solution that could meet multiple needs. Sonexis ConferenceManager fit the bill, providing an in-house conferencing platform that is easy-to-use, secure, and cost effective.

When SWAPA selected Sonexis ConferenceManager as its audio and Web conferencing solution three years ago, conferencing was not frequently being used by committee members as a meeting tool. Because of the easy-to-use features of ConferenceManager, pilots soon began to embrace this new system as a primary means of communication.

Currently, SWAPA uses the Sonexis ConferenceManager as its main communications tool for keeping its union and committee members abreast of organization news. When the SWAPA board of directors meets for its quarterly meetings, it utilizes ConferenceManager's recording capabilities to capture the events of the meeting. The recording can is then be uploaded to the organization's collaboration site and can be made available for directors that were in flight or not able to dial in for the meeting, to access at a time that is convenient for them.

"We could use the collaboration portal for many of our communications activities, but we prefer ConferenceManager because it is so easy to use and we love its ‘on-the-fly' capabilities which allow us to pull together impromptu conferences whenever and wherever," said David O'Boyle, SWAPA's manager of information technology. "A reliable conferencing solution with limited administrative requirements is critical to our group."

SWAPA members serving on various organization committees also use ConferenceManager regularly. This includes the Editorial Committee who meets virtually to plan the member newsletter and share ideas for pilot publications. "More and more organizations are leveraging audio and web conferencing to improve enterprise-wide communications, collaboration, and the decision-making process among dispersed teams," stated Dan Massiello, president and CEO of Sonexis. "The Southwest Airlines Pilots' Association is leveraging the benefits of ConferenceManager's secure conferencing capabilities to address its unique communications needs. ConferenceManager not only delivers the features and ease of use we all demand, but also presents a value proposition that cannot be ignored."
