Community of Christ's Communications Prayers Real-time, Global Collaboration Ensures Church's Mission Will Not Be "Lost in Translation" TEWKSBURY, Mass. February 20, 2007 Community of Christ has selected Sonexis ConferenceManager, an in-house audio and Web conferencing system, as its conferencing solution. The global, 250,000-member church is using Sonexis ConferenceManager to connect geographically dispersed regional staff tasked with communicating the church's mission to its expanding community. Staff from around the world meet for face-to-face meetings every few years, but these meetings are cost-prohibitive for regular business communications. Consequently, Community of Christ sought a technology solution that would enable cost-effective, real-time delivery of the organization's mission to the 50 countries in which the church has a presence. Sonexis ConferenceManager's easy-to-use in-house audio conferencing bridge fit the bill, connecting individuals to the church's Independence, Missouri headquarters for monthly meetings. "We tried various options, but could never find a cost-effective way to bring a large global team together to carry out our organization's mission and support our members. Then, we deployed Sonexis ConferenceManager and established regular meetings," said Steve McCrosson, director of technical support for Community of Christ. "Every word counts when communicating with current and potential members. Our mission is global, but if we expect to truly reach people, our communication must have a local feel and tone. Collaborating through Sonexis ConferenceManager has solved what was previously a major communications challenge." Monthly meetings include 90 individuals, several of whom join the conference from countries whose telecommunications infrastructure is less than reliable. To combat this, conference organizers from headquarters dial out to regional coordinators and translators located in Kenya, Zambia, India, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Malawi, and Tahiti. Representatives from five domestic locations are then dialed before connecting all the members through Sonexis ConferenceManager and syncing those through phone PA links to 75 additional members in Missouri. Once global news is discussed, monthly meeting organizers use Sonexis ConferenceManager's sub-conferencing features to break into smaller discussion groups to address additional business. The conference is controlled by a conference organizer at headquarters who uses Sonexis ConferenceManager's audio console to manage background noise and direct sub-conferences. "Organizations of all sizes and from all industries are expanding globally. Leveraging audio and Web conferencing to improve communications, collaboration, and decision-making among dispersed teams is crucial to successful operations," stated Brian Giuffrida, vice president of marketing and business development for Sonexis. "Community of Christ is benefiting from ConferenceManager's secure conferencing capabilities to meet its unique communications needs. ConferenceManager enables real-time communication and collaboration that is reliable and cost effective."
